Simple Beef Pies

Ingredients

  • 4 125g fillet steaks
  • 1 tsp oil
  • sea salt & cracked black pepper
  • 2 375g packets store-bought puff pastry
  • 2 tbsp wholegrain mustard
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • Tomato chutney, to serve

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 C. Trim the steaks, brush with the oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Heat a frying pan over high heat. Add the steaks and cook for 3 minutes each side until well browned. Remove from the pan.
  2. Roll out the pastry on a lightly floured surface until 3mm thick. Cut 4×14cm rounds for the base and 4×16cm rounds for the tops.
  3. Line a tray with baking paper and place the 4 pastry bases on the tray. Top each with a piece of beef and 1/2 tbsp mustard. Brush the pastry edged with the egg and top with the remaining rounds of pastry. Press the edges to seal and brush the pastry top with the egg.
  4. Bake for 20 minutes or until the pastry is golden and the beef is cooked. Serve with a tomato chutney.
